Alrighty, good evening everyone will give it a couple seconds for everybody to get in. But based off of our participant number off on the right hand side that I can see, we are already at 190 people within this chat. So that's very very exciting. Thank you all so much for logging in this evening to be a part of our orientation live videocast. We have representatives from the orientation of family.
Gagement academic advising and residence life here to help with questions and to give a brief presentation on some frequently asked questions so that you all, as students and families coming into the University of Tampa, have a good understanding before your here. So First off, my name is Lee Dittman. I am an intern here in the orientation and family engagement office. I help handle many of the things apart that are a part of week of welcome and I am so excited to have.
So many peers and colleagues online tonight to help with this presentation, so I will let them all introduce themselves. And then we'll go ahead and get started.
Uh, I can cover us if you want my name is cracked or Pawnee. Currently in MBA student at the University of Tampa graduating in December, did my undergraduate in economics in Poli SCI. So even if you have any questions about like politics and all that fun stuff, I'm happy to talk to you and and just good luck with moving in and I look forward to seeing you guys in about a month so.
Hi, I'll go next. My name is Marissa Rousseau. I am a first year academic advisor here and I am representing academic advising so I can help you with any questions in regarding to your student schedule or anything. Academics advising related.
Hello everybody, my name is Amy Greene. I'm the associate director of housing operations that I'm here to answer. Any housing and reslife questions you have today.
Hi everyone, my name is Caitlin Hurley. I am an area coordinator with residence life. I oversee morsani hall. I'm also here to represent residents life and help answer your questions.
Awesome, so once again we are so excited to be here this evening to share this information with you all and kind of be one of your first welcome committees as you're preparing to come down to Tampa and get ready to start your experience in the Spartan community. So with that being said, we'll go into our presentation.
I'm going to kick it right off with the Spartan checklist, so this is pretty much everything you guys need to have sort of checked off before the semester starts. Any important information for yourself or for the university to have so the first thing, of course is your health forms. That should be done through your student portal that will be taken care of by our health and Wellness Center. Make sure you have all your your.
Vaccines things like that you may need in order to enter college. UM, your Spartan ID photo so that should have been taken care of as well. That's going to be the picture that you submit. That's gonna go on your Spartan ID. Your Spartan ID. Of course you're gonna carry with you all times throughout campus. That's sort of like your All Access pass.
If you ever lose that needed to be replaced, there's an office on the 2nd floor, the bond center. You'll learn all that stuff as you guys get familiar with the campus financial clearance, of course, is due by August 26. Just make sure all your bills are paid so you can actually start at the university. Register for classes. All those type of things. When the time eventually does come, we want to make sure you're staying up on all your financial dues so that there's no problems when you guys arrive to the university. Your dual enrollment transcripts, your ABC, AP IB course scores, or do as soon as possible.
Of course, wanna make sure you completed the course before you submit those transcripts and you get the final grade. That's so that the academic success center. It can make sure they apply those applicable credits to you so that when going forward, when you eventually registered for classes you are not taking classes you may not need or taking credit so you don't need for your particular degree track. And of course your final high school transcripts are due by August 1st for the same reason.
Now if you have colleges slash APIB sending official transfer with completed courses or your official scores again for the same reasons that the university has record of that. So going forward they can apply the correct credits to U transcripts need to be officially mailed or sent electronically by the official high school organization or college, so make sure that if you soon to get these forms in your getting in touch with your high school as soon as possible. I just went right into my guidance counselor's office when I was in high school and had them send the sealed envelope to Utah, everything was taken care of on there, of course.
Again, send after you complete the courses. You T will do official transfer credit evaluation to make sure that the credits that you are applying for for the AP to the Ivy Courses do transfer to our curriculum. Some do, some don't. So depending on you have a three or four or five on your exams as well and you can be your AP score requirements at that link at utah.edu went to the next slide.

This presentation is being recorded and will be shared on the orientation webpage for later viewing as well!
Of course you want to pay your bill how to pay your bill. Essentially, as you do your bill on my U Tampa, underneath your work day option that's on there, you're going to set up a tuition payment plan if you'd like to do that, but there's certain deadlines that if you wanted to do, for example, a five month payment plan or four month payment plan, there's dead night deadlines. You have to meet for that. I every semester. Do the payment plan just for the Peace of Mind, knowing that it's easier to spread those payments out every semester, rather than having a huge bill at one time. Of course, set up any student loans you may have, whether it's a Federale.
Or any other loans you decide to take out privately through bank. Make sure you have those set up and submitted to the university so we can apply those loans to you or bill contact the bursar's office if you have any questions about your bill or tuition. Payment plan options. Plenty of options for you for variety of people who need a federal assistance or any other type of assistance with paying your bills. And of course, contact financial aid at utah.edu. Have any questions about loans, grants or scholarships that you may either achieved through the university or outside of the university?
So, uh, we will move next into online orientation, which is from our office, so students will have access beginning August 1st on their my U Tampa portal to the online orientation. UTI. Does a hybrid system where we ask students to complete about 7 modules of information about the university and it gives them a good overall understanding prior to their physical arrival on campus. So this is the important information about the various.
Resources on campus kind of the rules and policies and think what to expect with living on campus or off campus as a commuter if they are moving into the area as a commuter student.
These all are quick, friendly and very interactive modules for students to complete. They need to complete those prior to arriving on campus and then you will then be a part of week of welcome which we'll get into later as the more physical, actual interactive part on campus for orientation. So as I said, it's seven modules, academic services, academics, safety and security, student life Support services, university policies and next steps.
So you will get access and complete these and it should all be through your my utampa page, parents, families, Guardians, whoever is interested also can have a guest login so that parents and families can see what their student is seeing as well.
So now we're going to go into the everfi. Wellness programs essentially, is what you should complete sort of before you start at UT. It's important information about alcohol, substance abuse, things like that regarding college campuses, and social life. So there are numerous ways you can access everfi Wellness program.
The first is you check your Utah email for the invitation to ever fly. That should be an invitation from them to you to complete this program. Second, you could access through the website using this link if you prefer. Third, you go to theeverfi.com/login and Click to register for the appropriate course under these student slash learner tab, there should be entered the registration code under 26 and click the next button to create your Everfi account Now note when prompted, please enter University of Tampa ID number to receive credit for a completion.
Most of you should know your ID number already. She would just enter that in their complete part. One of the alcohol Edu as soon as possible. I'm an undergraduate prescription. Drugs courses by August 27th of 2021, so that's a few days before the start of the semester. I want to make sure you have all this completed. It will open July 15th. You will receive the invitation to complete part two of all three courses, which are. They're very short. They're not hard, just sort of a general overview about substance abuse and alcohol abuse and and how to be safe with those type of things.
On a college campus 'cause they are prevalent and again complete by August 27. If you have already haven't ever fly higher education account, go to thatlinkrightthereeverfi.com/login and to your login information and then enter registration code under 26 in the Attic course box in the top right hand corner of the dashboard should prompt you to complete everything you need before that deadline.
Great, so now we'll talk about family orientation. So for the fall upcoming semester, we won't have any events on campus for our families. However, we are going to be offering a free online experience on Tuesday, August 3rd from 5:00 to 6:30 PM and this is going to be an event where we will have information presented to help with new students transitioning to campus and kind of make sure that our families feel supported and heard.
And that they have the information that they want prior to their students coming to campus. So it's going to be an informational and engaging 90 minute program, which will include a welcome from our university President, President Vaughn, the Provost and campus administrators. Registration can be found at utah.edu/orientation/family and is due by July 29th, which is next week. So if you're not able to attend, don't worry. It's going to be recorded and will be posted on the family orientation Web page.
So it's really informational. It's really a great opportunity for families to make sure that they feel comfortable prior to bringing their students, and that if you have questions that can be answered within that area of representation from the university, we can definitely have that happen.
Now we're going to update you on sort of our Spartan shield. Our Spartan Shield is the university sort of health and Wellness type awareness organization that we have to keep students up to date on what's going on in terms of their health and things with COVID-19 over the last year and a half, the Spartan Shields really been working overtime to ensure student safety, so the university will not require vaccination or proof of vaccination. As per Florida Senate Bill 20 zero six. So you're not required to get a COVID vaccine in order to attend the university, so I know a lot of people might have been.
leigh.dittman@spartans.ut.edu
07:11:29 PM
If you are having issues with audio- please log out and log back into the system and see if that corrects the issue!
Other universities might require that we do not, so don't worry about that. Community members who have been fully vaccinated do not need to wear a mask anywhere on the Utah campus, including indoors, so that has just been lifted from last semester. I personally am fully vaccinated, so therefore I wouldn't have to wear a mask when going inside. If you're not, you absolutely need to wear your mask to reduce the spread of COVID-19. It's it's very important that we do that so we can have sort of the most normal semester possible for your incoming freshman class and the physical distancing limited.
Of course, are lifted, so we used to have the six. The six feet rule we used to not allow people to to go into other residence halls, visit their friends, things like that. That of course has been lifted. Quarantine will still be infant book. The quarantine will still be implemented as needed to control the transitioning of COVID-19, so of course if you or someone you know has been has has contracted COVID-19, you absolutely need to follow quarantine measures so that we can of course limit the spread of COVID for not only your health and safety, but those in the university.
Well to assume as normal operations day-to-day as possible, I'm cleaning and sanitation practices will continue. The university has done a fantastic job last year and a half, making sure that our dining halls, all of our dorms, all of our buildings are kept clean and sanitized. They have hand sanitizing stations around campus. They always encourage you to wash your hands, keep clean. So if there are those out there who are worried about COVID-19 and potentially contracting it on a college campus, I understand your concerns. But again, the university does a great job.
That means making sure that we're saying is clean and healthy as possible within parameters, and be sure to check Utah COVID-19 safety and education website at ut.edu/coronavirus for the latest information, including the opportunity to read the entire Spartan Shield Health and safety plan so they have a step by step plan laid out on there. Everything you need to know about what we're doing to limit the spread of COVID-19 in keeping you, your families, and anybody else who might visit the university safe from COVID-19.
So now we'll talk a little bit about week of welcome, which is my favorite part as the intern here in the office of Orientation. This is what my whole summer is about is helping to plan and get all the supplies necessary. The volunteers to make week of welcome happen so we could welcome is the in person.
On campus involvements. Orientation portion of your beginning life. Here as a Spartan. So it's the way to get involved. It's to learn the resources you have on campus. You know we have things such as a silent disco. We have Expos and fairs where you can see both on campus and off campus resources. We will also be hosting a shopping trip to target. For those of you who are like Oh no, I've unpacked my residence hall and I am missing.
All of the things we will help you we will shuttle you to target and make sure that you get what you need or if it's you just love target and want to go to target. We're here for you too. And we're also going to have Spartan spectacular. There are so many different events and ways to get involved. So many student organizations take part and week of welcome and it's just our way as a community to welcome you and make sure that you are feeling that you are a part of it from day one.
OK I am going to talk to you about living on campus. So welcome to living on campus. Welcome to residence life. We are so excited to have you for the mission of our office is to foster inclusive residential, community and dynamic learning experiences that promote student development and academic success. So we have different staff in our office. We have professional live in staff which is myself. I live in Morsani since that's the building over CMN area coordinator. We do some other area coordinators and then we also have assistant directors.
To oversee some buildings as well and also living there we have our RA's resident assistants who will be your first point of contact. If you need anything, have questions concerns. Of course your professional staff member in your building is always available, but your RA is going to be or go to and then as a professional staff member. We oversee the RA so they'll keep us in the loop on everything that we need to know going into our main office, we have our associate directors who said there we have two associate directors so Amy is one of them.
She sits in the main office. Our director sits in there and then also our housing coordinator and then our associate Dean of students.
For meal plan changes, room changes, you can contact our main office. You can call or email them or you can stop by there on the 2nd floor of the Von Center.
We can go to the next slide so we have 12 residence halls on a campus. Like I said, I oversee morsani. I'm currently in our community room right now. All of our residence halls are great. They have their own unique dynamics and they all have different layouts, so most of you probably already have your assignments. I encourage you to look on our website if you want to see more information about your building. You can also reach out to your professional staff member who lives in your building right now so your area coordinator or assistant director. You can find our information.
On the website I'm also happy to take any questions you can feel free to email me as well.
And we are good to go to the next slide.
The Barrymore hotel. So this year we are. We are fully full, fully full I guess. Yeah OK, that makes sense.
U2 students in the Barrymore, so we have all Utes students. It's mostly first years in that building. There's going to be 2R as per floor and most rooms in the Barrymore are double rooms and have their own bathroom, so you're only sharing a bathroom with one other person, which is really nice. There's also a couple of single rooms on each floor 2 so in a typical double room there's two queen sized beds, a bedside table and lamp, a dresser, a TV with cable connection, a mini fridge and microwave.
In at one desk and chair so you can opt into using the hotel bed linens. Or you can bring your own. If you bring your own, make sure they're not white. If you want to opt into the program, you can contact the area coordinator over at the Barrymore. Her name is Carla Taylor, and then you can request a second desk and chair to be delivered by UTI during move in week, so don't hesitate to do that. Sorry if you heard that noise. An yeah the Barrymore is great. I walked over there the other day. It's just really nice so.
And you'll be able to meet a lot of other people in there too.
Housing amenities so you have Internet access. Very important. Laundry services are provided. They're included in your cost so you don't have to pay anything. You don't have to bring quarters, which is really nice. You don't have to be hoarding them. Uhm, if housekeeping that cleans student rooms so they'll come into the bathrooms, just the bathrooms once a week, it's very helpful. It's very nice and then mail services so your mail box should be listed on in work day. If you don't have a mailbox listed then you can contact mail.
Services to get that number?
And then we can go to the next slide.
So we provide different services for campus. As residents life. Some of these services are provided by our housing operations team, which Amy runs. So we have residence by simplicity. This is a student portal for all residents like processes where you can report your lost keys, submit your housing applications. You can access it through my U Tampa and then we have open room changes. So this happens in the third week of each semester. We are kind of.
We can't guarantee anyone changes will happen. We just have to see what vacancies we have. So it's just important to note it's not guaranteed that if you want a room change, you can get it at that time.
Information will be sent to your email and posted in residence halls at move in so that you can be aware of when that's happening. Meal plan changes so all residential students are required to have a meal plan that can be changed through the third week of the semester but then can't be changed after that, so make sure it's what you want. By the third week of this semester.
And more information is on www.dining.utah.edu.
And we can go to the next one. So your room this is like the best part. You can decorate it, make it your own, make it your home away from home. Uhm, one important thing is to not damage the walls with sticky UM, like LED light strips. When those go on, they're gonna immediately cause damage to the wall. And that's going to be hundreds of dollars in damage charges to you. We don't want to charge you for that, so just try to avoid those at all costs.
Good options are pushpins or painters tape, so we recommend those if you're going to try and hang things up on the wall.
We ask that students don't move any furniture. Large furniture in the room, so try and keep the beds. Dressers like wardrobes where they are facilities will be around on moving day to help you. If you want to raise your bed you can also submit a request you can talk to your RA or area coordinator or assistant director on move in day and we can help you out with that. But we really want you in the room when they're there so that you can feel it out and tell them if you like it where it's at so they don't. They don't have to keep coming back if you have a roommate. Concern will work directly with you too.
Resolve your roommate issues. Students will be asked to work with their RA and Area coordinator or assistant director to mediate any concerns will grant roommate room changes RA during the year on a space available basis, which is important to note.
But we are here for you. We're here to help you work through these issues so.
Reach out to us and don't be scared to talk to your RA. They're there to help you. They want to help you. That's why they're in their role.
Going into the guest policy, you can have gas as long as you're remains OK with it, so we're going to work with you on roommate agreements. That's something your RA will discuss with you when you move in, will have meetings about it, so more to come on that.
Good for the next slide. Yep, move in. It's crazy that it is literally about a month away. We are ready for you. We are so excited to have you move and appointments are available. On Eventbrite, you should have gotten an email about that. So in sign up for moving time. If you have any concerns you can reach out to your area coordinator or assistant director of your building. They're happy to work with you, so if you're part of an improved early moving group, your group organizer will work with Rez life to set up your early move in times will stay in contact with your group leader to see when you only move in time.
Is new students your moving time is between Wednesday, August 25th starting at 8:00 AM and to 4:00 PM and then Friday going through Thursday, Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM as well. So like I said, we're so excited to have you don't arrange travel until you've confirmed your moving appointment.
Students and guests are encouraged to bring their own PPE, like Craig said. If you're not vaccinated and we really, really need you to wear your mask so that we don't have an outbreak right in the beginning of the year, that's not going to be fun. Yeah, so just wear your PPE if you're not vaccinated. You can have two family members and friends per student to help during move in.
That is important, and then we encourage you to only bring essential items to residence halls. No large furniture, moving box, moving slash box trucks will not be permitted and then we will provide moving assistance and moving cards available will be available, but a helpful tip is to bring your own Dolly if possible. It might make your process move faster and honestly everyone will probably be jealous that you have your own Dolly. So I would just recommend bringing it. Let me make sure.
Sometime a little bit about like a first month free information kind of stuff. Some very important things to you guys and now going into your the first month. So pretty much.
August when we start through September. Important date. You should keep in mind and things like that. So the add drop period. This is for your classes so I drop is Monday August 30th to Sunday, September 5th, 11:59 PM. If you are to withdraw from a class during that time period, you get 100% of your tuition credited back to your account. This is in the event that perhaps you're taking a class that you might not need for your major or it's a credit you already satisfy. You might not need you wanted to get a different time because of my it might conflict with another class schedule. Things along that line.
We recommend you change classes like the teacher that professor, but these are for you know I these are. These are for reasons that might not satisfy us through higher means. Things like that. So make sure you always check with your academic advisor first before you make it in these decisions on your own meal plan changes like we discussed that may be changed until the third week of class is complete. The request for more residence by simplicity. On my U, Tampa allowed two business days or processor requests. Of course we have 7/12/15 and the unlimited meal plan, the seven meal plans is only for those who live in.
Storms that have apartment style dorms that have kitchens and then the 12 and 15 is for any residence hall and the unlimited is of course you can swipe in the ultimate dining halls many times as you like and you get 3 swipes at any other restaurant outside of ultimate dining with that particular plan. So of course make sure you have those changes in. You could change it again. Residence by simplicity now room swaps that begins the third week of class is limited room swap option will be available. Completed the Reslife office. I know we just discussed that a few previous slides ago.
A plethora of reasons why you might wanna wanna swap your room. I know we have an open room change process. I think sometime throughout the first few weeks this semester you want to do an open room change. That option is available for you as well.
And then vehicle registration. So first year students living on campus cannot bring a car, regardless how many college credits you've acquired, a PIV dual enrollment? If you're classified as a first year, so your first message, you can't bring a car. I get it. I didn't really like that. I understand why you might want your car, but there are. There are very intuitive reasons as to why this is a policy, so just keep that in mind that we're not doing 'cause we don't like you. We don't need to go to. There's reasons for that now off campus. First years, I hope your computer, for example.
You may purchase your pardon decals from campus safety beginning mid August. I know they usually send out an email regarding that. They do send a physical stamp in the mail. You'll get a temporary parking pass. In the meantime, you keep in the dashboard of your car making sure you park at the appropriate designated spots on campus for what you are classified as as a commuter student.
There are a few different parking right? They'll explain all that the parking garage where you could park things like that that typically runs, I think about like $55 for parking pass, and that's for the entire academic year, not per semester.
So so now we can talk about some tips for success at Utah. Uhm, this is something that you are talking to. A group of people that are both professionals and also fellow students. I'm a rising senior and crag is finishing up his Masters program, so we've been here for several years. You know, we definitely have our own experiences and I think Craig, I don't want to speak for you, but I think we can both agree that these are definitely important tips. That for being an incoming student.
It's really helpful to know, first and foremost is participating in week of welcome events. Now we may be a little biased in our office here because we run a lot of this, but we genuinely think that this is a wonderful, wonderful program. We put our hearts and souls into it for months to plan, but it's because we want to have students feel the most included and the most supportive that they can be so.
This is the best way to do it. You know everybody is on a level playing field. Everybody is new and it's a great way to to make friends and get to know what's happening on campus before you're starting your classes and having to deal with the stress of that as well. Familiarize yourself with the code of conduct that's really important. You know there could be something that you didn't think was against the rules. That's definitely against the rules and now you're having to deal with conducts. You know, it's something that we want to make sure that all students.
Feel safe and supported, but also that rules are being followed and it's really important to just be aware of what's expected of you, especially if you're living on campus. Those rules and policies are there for a reason, and it's important that you know that they are there so that you're not finding out later when you don't want to find out.
Go on a classroom tour. We are offering them during week of welcome. You will see many WOW leaders across campus that are here to help you during week of welcome and part of our role is to help with classroom tours. So find out where your classes are. It takes a lot of the stress off of you. If you know where you're going before you have to go there. I definitely did it when I started here. My best friend and I definitely wear those those first year students that had our schedules and we're like OK, where are we going? You know, a week before classes started because?
Then you know, and you can help your your friends around you find the way.
Don't lose your Spartan ID card. As Craig said before, it is your gateway into everything you know. Some buildings require your Spartan card. Using the gym requires your Spartan card, your meal plan, accessing some of the residence halls if not all of the residence halls. It's something that you need it in order to get to where you need to be, but it's also a safety thing with the fact that Utah is in the center of the city of Tampa. We are an open campus, which means that we have a lot of the general public that walks.
Around our campus because everyone thinks it's beautiful, but if there's events happening around the general public likes to try to use the parking that's available on campus and so can't this safety will. Oftentimes when those events are taking place, ask to see ID's to make sure that people that are on campus belong on campus. So just always have it on you campus. Safety has the right to ask you at any time to see your ID as a student, so always have it on. You know you give out fun little foam pockets. That's where I keep mine.
A lot of people do it this way. Put it in your wallet, don't lose it. It's really, really important. If you lose it, you have to go see the Spartan Card office on the 2nd floor of the Von Center and get it replaced, so don't lose it. Read through your syllabus. It's really important. If you've never had to look at a syllabi before for classes, it's really important. Go through it, see what the professors are asking of you. See what the recommendations are. Go through and put your assignment due dates. A lot of professors.
Put all of the layout of the course for the semester in their syllabus and it's really useful if you're like me. I put everything in a planner color coded. I know when due dates are. I know when projects are and I know when I need to work on assignments. That is the way to delegate your time. Because as a college student for many of you, it's probably your first time really having to do things on your own and so finding these ways of.
Playing time for a different assignments and projects and exams ahead of time is really, really useful, and it's something that I highly recommend as you're coming in, and it's important to know that your syllabus is your friend when it comes to that. Always check your syllabus before asking a question to a professor, 'cause more often than not, they've probably answered in their syllabus and they will email you back. Look at your syllabus. So definitely. Just give it a glance over at the least. And just as a pro tip, if you see an R, whether it's on work day or on your schedule.
Or on a syllabus, our means Thursday T is Tuesday are is Thursday. That's how we separate things out and you know finally, ask questions in class and around campus. This is such a friendly environment. Everybody is here to support you. You will have somebody who will know the answer and if they don't know it, they will let you know and say, hey, but I'd recommend talking to so and so I don't know everything about residence, life and living on campus because I'm a commuter student, so I will tell you.
Go talk to residents life or talk to my friend who's lived on campus the last three years. You know everybody is like that on campus. We all reach out to our each other because we're all one community. So definitely don't be afraid to ask questions.
And with that being said, we're now going to open it up to questions. So here are just some emails and phone numbers that are really helpful. And if you have questions, definitely definitely use these as I put in the chat earlier. This presentation is being recorded and will be shared on our website, so this is something that won't go away.
Uhm, you'll definitely be able to refer to it later, but if you want to take a quick picture of it now, will leave this up for the rest of the presentation, as there are no more slides just for you to be able to review for yourself. But other than that, will go ahead and jump in and I see questions are quickly coming in, so we'll start with at the top with the first one that we got in from Tommy for move in. Do we get our keys right when we drive up and then go to our room? How does it work? And I will refer to?
So yes, essentially what you're doing is you're going to be following our move in maps which are located on our website. It has exact directions for how you're supposed to get in the move in line to check in at your residence hall, so check that out. Essentially, you're going to be in that line. You'll go up to your area where everybody is doing their checkins for their buildings, and a resident assistant will hand you your keys, sign them out to you, and check you into this system.
And then you can go right up with your helpers and start moving things in. So yeah happens right then once you are in that line.
Perfect so Tommy then asked a follow-up question that he says is for Marissa. Some credits of mine still not have transferred over. Do you know when that will be?
So when you're transferring credits over the first thing I want to say is you want to make sure that your credits have been sent in. So whether that be through AP, you're going to need to have those sent in through College Board so you can go to collegeboard.org and make sure those are sent over. If it's going to be dual enrollment, we actually need the transcripts directly from the institution that you took that credit at, so it can't just be on your high school transcripts. We need to have a transcript from the Community College, the university.
Wherever you took that one thought credit is transferred in, we actually have credit transfer credit evaluators here, and so they're actually humans doing this one by one, putting that transfer credit in the system. So if you've sent it in within a day or two, just know that it might take someone a little bit of time to input it into work day. If you send it awhile ago, it's definitely a good idea to send an email to your advisor just checking in and saying, hey, I'm not seeing this uploaded and work day.
Can you just let me know if it's in the system or not? 'cause we can kind of see things on our back end and then just make sure you're sending all of that to admissions@utah.edu. That is where you're going to be sending any transfer credit in.
Perfect, uhm, next question is from Sarah. And I know Marissa you touched on this so I just want to make sure that we've reiterated for this question. But how do students send in AP scores?
Yeah, so for sending in AP scores again, you're going to go to collegeboard.org. I know AP scores were just sent in, so again, if you don't see them in work day directly. UM, we probably do have them on our end. We, if you indicated the University of Tampa when you took the exam that you wanted them sent over, they were directly sent over. If you did not indicate the University of Tampa when you wanted them sent over, then just make sure you're going to collegeboard.org and sending them our way.
Perfect next question is from William which you just explained, but I just want to make sure that if William is listening, he knows that his question was answered of high school is currently closed, but College Board said they would send AP scores directly to your college slash university. Will that be acceptable? And your answer is yes.
Yes, that is perfect. That's exactly what we're looking for.
Perfect next question is from Corey. Is there any unique orientation for transfer students? So there will be information that will be shared out to transfer students of regarding orientation and there is a transfer track in the online orientation. So when you're starting that it will kind of give you a different guide of information regarding that. There also will be different.
Events should be catered towards transfer students as well during week of welcome.
Next question is from Brianna. Can you pay portion upfront and then have a payment plan for the balance and I'm assuming that this is towards tuition. UM, so for that question we're going to see if one of our representatives kind of in the background can work on that, and we'll move on to the next question and come back. Unless someone on the panel already knows the answer.
You could work with the Bursar's office to set up a payment plan.
I'm sorry which quite well could you repeat the question, Lee? I'm sorry I was about him.
And if students can pay a portion upfront and then have a payment plan for the rest of the balance for tuition.
Yes, OK this is great. 'cause I actually did this last message. I'm sorry now that I'm like locked in this message message before. So when you go to make your payment plan on work day, there's actually a blank box that says amount you want to pay and you can put in any amount, for example. So let's say you owe $10,000 and they divide it up over the five months. You're not required to make that payment. You could do 5000 up front and then make the rest of the 5000 and $1000 increments over the five month payment plan if that's what you got to sign up.
Or so you really aren't locked in that payment plan. You're allowed to actually put in the dollar amount you want to pay going forward, so I know I just got my whole bill today. I got. I shut it a little bit, but it's OK. We'll make it work. Will pay a certain amount upfront, doesn't have to be the exact required one, and then we'll make the rest of the payments throughout the five month payment plan that I signed up for. So that option is there for you.
Next question is from Kenzie. What is the process of submitting your DC class credit it is it is on the high school transcript.
Yeah, so uhm, Kenzie. I think you meant dual enrollment class credit. If I'm wrong please correct me in the questions. I'll be sure to try to answer your question the best of my abilities, but for dual enrollment like I stated before, I just want to reiterate, it is on your high school transcript. We cannot take that as official dual enrollment. You do have to have that official transcript sent in to admissions from the institution that you took it at.
Next question is from Rodrix for student life, what are the hours of operation of the shuttle from the Barrymore to campus?
OK, so this is subject to change, just depending on the needs of the students that live in the building, but it usually starts going pretty early in the morning. I think the last time we had the Barrymore for students we had a 7-8 AM shuttle run and then it runs till pretty late in the night, usually around 11:00 PM or so.
One important note is that you can always call campus safety for a ride to after the shuttle stops or before the shuttle starts. They're always available for that.
And the make sure the shuttle runs every 15 minutes, right? That's why it goes back this week.
Yes, it goes in a loop around campus and back to the Berry more. It's it's pretty frequent, so students are typically using it throughout the day.
Cool, next question is from Destiny. When is week of welcome. So week of welcome. Officially is August 27th through September 6th. However there are pre wow events for students who move in on the 25th and 26th. So when you move in there will still be things to do if you're on those earlier dates of move in, it is a full throttle full experience, over 100 events over the course of those like 10 to 12 days so you will not be bored.
On campus that is for certain.
Next question is from Sean, why is the Barrymore taking room reservations still? It looks like they're taking's 1217 and in the winter session. This is concerning to many families who thought we can keep our room set up even if they can, even if we cannot gain access. Also, now that Barrymore is all UTI, can we get at least a grab and go breakfast and lunch option as part of the meal plan?
So the Barrymore is completely UTI students throughout the whole year, and that also includes winter break. So if you could maybe contact the office of Residence life and maybe give us a link to where you saw that if it was on the main very more sites, we will bring that to the barrymores attention so they can remove that. But yes, they they won't be accepting any reservations after we open for this semester. Also, for the meal plan, the the restaurant at the Barrymore is currently.
Closed we hope that maybe in the future it may reopen. I know they have a small convenience store also located on property that students can use currently is not a part of the meal plan, but if you have concerns about that, please give us a call and we'll see what's possible. It might be something that we will need to work on in the future.
Next question is from Emily. Can students also decorate their room if they are in the Barrymore Hotel?
Yep, everybody can still personalize their spaces when we really encourage you to do so. Just as long as you do not damage the walls. So no big like mount like TV mounting stuff on the walls, no strings of lights, so it's going to rip off all the paints and anything like that. We recommend things like small tax or painters tape. Some students also use the command strips, but we ask that you leave them in place but.
When you leave their room, just 'cause we know that sometimes if you remove them improperly, it does rip the pain off.
Taylor asked, would you be able to describe what a double corner room looks like in Austin Hall?
I would highly recommend that you reach out to your area coordinator. His name is Frankie Defranco. Frankie can give you more information about the layout of that space.
Perfect up next question, we already answered and we answered the following one.
Uhm, and you answered the next one about command strips that students can use them, but to leave them in place.
Catherine asks we need to opt in for linens at the Barrymore. How do we do that?
Yeah, you wanna take that.
Do you want me to take it?
Yeah, I can take that one so you don't have to opt in if you want to opt in. You're more than welcome to and you could talk to your area coordinator Carla Taylor about that. You can email her and she can coordinate those details, but if you're going to bring your own sheets, make sure they're not white, because then the housekeepers will like take them off and wash them. So just make sure they're not white if they're your own.
Kenzie asks where can you find the list of on campus restaurants. You can use your meal plan for.
I know that everything is listed on the dining website, so I would highly recommend that you review that page for the locations of everything. We have really great food on campus, so I hope you'll enjoy. I know that there's lots of like little small places you can eat and tons of places to go and morsani for different things so.
Perfect yes, the website isdining.utah.edu for those that need to look at that.
Up next question is from Emily, when will we receive our Spartan ID's for students who are living on campus? You'll receive it when you're checking in at your residence hall. For commuter students, you'll receive them at check in, which will be held during week of welcome. Come on specific dates that you will just be able to walk in to the Spartan Club which is on the 2nd floor of the bond center, right next to the Spartan ID office.
And be able to pick up and get checked into the system and be a part of the student population.
Arena asks is there a replacement fee for a new Spartan ID? Yes, there is a replacement fee. It is subject to change, so if you were to lose your Spartan ID you would have to reach directly out to the Spartan Card office, but it typically is around 20 to $25 as it's been in the past, so I would say.
That's how much it is now as well.
Aviona asks where is the syllabus located. Crag, do you want to talk about syllabus and all that fun.
I'm a graduate assistant for the College of Business, so a lot of times I deal with these professors syllabi and it drives me up the wall, but I know exactly where they are located, and so when you log into your my U Tampa portal, you're going to see a bunch of different things that's going to be in your my U Tampa, which is one login for everything you're going to have your outlook in there, your residence by simplicity, your health portal, your work day, all of that stuff now. The syllabus specifically wanted. This post is going to be in the blackboard section of your my utampa blackboard is where your professors will.
Post content in your classes were going to post his syllabus to post their grades, assignments, projects, details, anything like that. What's great about Black Warren about your university? Tampa Spartan email is that they are linked, so every time a professor post something in that class Blackboard, you're going to get a email about it saying, hey, your professor posted syllabus under the syllabus section or your exam, two grade has been posted. Click here to check it. It will automatically bring you into the blackboard. And of course if you set up notifications.
On your phone for outlook like I do every time I get an email whether it's regarding classes or not, pops right up on my phone, so everything keeps up to date, so it's going to be in the blackboard section of your class. When that when your professor opens that up and again a lot of times two professors will email their class introducing themselves and will attach the syllabus with that email as well. You're saying, hey, we're looking forward to having on the first day classes. Please review the syllabus and we can. We can go from there and I know the next question.
Says where do I find out where my classes will be? Which buildings or rooms? So this is going to be this sort of the same process, so a lot of professors when they email you your syllabus will have the classroom and the building location on the syllabus. If you want to wait to get the syllabus now, it's also available under your work day when you log into work day through my camp and you click the academics tab, it's going to have your course. It's going to say like my course schedule when you click on that you'll get to see all the classes that you're registered for and if you follow that along the screen it should say location in time.
I would say let's say JS is John Sykes at the College of Business Room 118 from 6:00 to 7:50 PM Tuesday, Thursday. All of that will be listed on work day. And again it will also be specified in your class syllabus as well.
So I just want to jump back to the computer question again. Real quick about Spartan ID's, uhm, commuter check in is August 27th through the 29th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the Von Center Spartan Club. So no appointment is needed. You just walk hearing that 4:00 to 8:00 PM time window. You'll get registered into the system and you'll receive your Spartan ID card for a computer since he won't be getting it 'cause he won't be living on campus. Also, just again to reiterate, week of welcome officially is August 27th through September.
Six with events happening on the 25th and 26th as well for students who have those earlier arrival dates.
Next question is from Daniel. If you're a commuter student who is the best person to contact with questions so any office on campus is able to help out commuter students. You know just because you're not living on campus doesn't mean that you don't have access to all the resources of campus. So if you have questions related to.
Your academics reach out to your academic advisors. If you have questions about student organizations, reach out to the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement. If you have questions of power week of welcome, or once you're at the end of your time at Utah commencement, you reach out to our office of Orientation and Family Engagement. Everybody on campus is here to support you, so if you have a question and related to some sort of genre of topic, reach out to that office.
And then you'll get your answers. And if they don't know it then they'll send you on to the next person. That probably has the better answer, but also keep in mind that you have access to your professors just like any other student would. They can help you with questions. Also, as incoming students, you'll be a part of the baccalaureate experience, so you'll be a part of your either back class or your honors class depending on which route you were placed into. And with that you'll have a mentor, a student mentor within your class.
That is a great resource. There will be a student that's older than you that has been a part of it, so I know as myself as a commuter, I reached out to my Honors mentor quite a bit and just as.
You know somebody to reach out to being that I didn't know who to talk to, so they're a great resource as well.
So next question is from 10 UT says I can have a 10 gallon tank on campus with roommate approval. Can I keep something other than fish in it? I work at a zoo and I'd like to have a tank in my room.
And just to add, we do do health and safety inspections, so we will know if something else is in the room just so you know.
And please, if you have fish, make sure to take them with you on winter break. Or if you have a friend that's staying for winter break and they would like to babysit your fish for you, then you can arrange that. But please don't leave your fish alone during the break.
Next question is from L. You said we are not allowed to move the furniture or we should not.
We are. We've spaced out the furniture in such a way that it allows students to live safely in this space during this time. So we're asking that you don't move around the furniture too much if you'd like assistance with potentially like seeing if things need to be moved around or it like adjusting things. I would talk to your RA and your.
Area coordinator or assistant director. Another thing to mention is that sometimes the AC units can get blocked if you move furniture and that can create a really humid, nasty moldy situation in your room that you don't want to deal with. So just make sure to leave things where they are.
And we want to help you. We'd rather help you now than have you do it yourself and then charge you hundreds of dollars for damages at the end of the year. You don't want that. We don't want that, so just ask for help.
Perfect next question is from Sofia. Are the modules the ones on drug awareness required? Will I be penalized if I do not complete them? The Everfi modules are required if you don't complete them or there's a failure to complete them. It will result in a hold on your student account and it will prevent you from registering, so they're really easy. They're really simple. They don't take long, it's something that you just.
Put on you listen. You click through and you'll finish it in.
A few hours if you're really knocking it out, it's very straightforward and it has a lot of good information 'cause it covers. You know, drug and alcohol abuse. It covers sexual assault and and things that are really important topics that you know. It's information that even if you don't think you will ever be in a situation you never know, it may not be you. And maybe your friend or your roommate. And it's important to be a knowledgeable ally if that ever. Heaven forbid was the case. So definitely take them seriously.
They're really important.
Next question is from Emily. When do you get your Spartan card? As we've said previously, you'll get it either when you're checking into your residence hall if you are living on campus, or you will come in for commuter check in to pick that up when you were put into the system, which is again the 27th through the 29th.
Charlie says going back to the online orientation, which hyperlink or section in my U Tampa will that be under? So when you log into your my U Tampa page there are all these little boxes that pop up. They're called chiclets and they have the different like titled what it is. So that's where you'll find Blackboard and residence by simplicity. I think of them bright as on their vigrid all these different within the university portals and so.
On line orientation, literally is titled orientation and it's just a little module you click on that and everything will be handled from there through the system.
Next question is from Graham. Should we wait to make our payment until financial aid is distributed into our account? If so, when will that be?
We're going to wait for our background assistance here, unless Craig has an answer that would be helpful here.
So what I've done in the past and it might be different now because we've moved to work day and things like that is if you owe a certain amount on your plan and you pay, let's say, into it a little bit, and you might pay over or something like that, and you didn't know it gets credited into your account going forward, so it's not like that money is being paid in, you're losing it. You'll be able to credit it going forward for whatever the next payment, maybe the next semester.
Things like that, but I personally recommend for my own personal knowledge is waiting until all of your appropriate scholarships grants, whatever it may be in your whole statement, is updated and applied. I I know, for example, mine was done last week, so I assumed financially in the Bursar's are working relatively quickly to get everybody's financial statements done. If you feel like you have the financial statement and it's not appropriate or applicable to what it is you or your feel like, you're missing something of course called the brochures or financial bursar.
Office for billing purposes financially for scholarships and other things I know, for example, my my grant I get as a graduate assistant covers my graduate tuition and that wasn't placed on my account when I got my bill at 1st and I called the Financial Office and they said, oh, we see it on there. We're just having a troubleshoot issue on our end. You'll see it by tomorrow. Next day they fit, you know. So they work really diligently to make sure that you understand your finances so that you can make sure that you're paying and that you're registered and that we have no problems with you going forward throughout this year. First semester on campus.
Uhm, so I would you probably can. I personally would wait until everything is finalized.
So next question is from Carla, where do you find the code of conduct so uhm, you can go onto utah.edu and in the search bar type in conduct and will pull up their webpage, UM.
It also is linked in the online orientation as well, so there are a couple of different places you can check and they have a physical office on campus, so the Office of Student Conduct is in the bond center on the 2nd floor and it's.
The second floor is shaped really funny. So what I suggest is you are better off simply going to the closest office. The first office you find and ask for the other one that you need up there by the commuter lounge. So when you're walking on the 2nd floor, if you see the vending machines on your left hand side, you'll hang a right and follow the hallway down and they're the last door on the left, so that will make sense when you're actually physically on campus. But if you need a physical like.
Word to look for it there. Room 202 so.
Like I said, this often this whole space is a little weirdly configured so everyone gets lost all the time. Again, just pop your head into an office and they'll point you in the right direction. If you can't find it.
Next question is from Leah. How does the Internet in the dorms work?
We have Wi-Fi throughout campus.
Yeah, so it's just the UM, what is it? UT underscore student is the log in and then I believe that there's a Wi-Fi that's more specifically for like your gaming systems, that you can use. I would recommend looking up the IT and security kind of web page on theut.edu site for information on that, but for just general use you as a UT student will use.
You're my utampa. Login information.
To gain access and then it's all around Wi-Fi. It works across the entire campus. It doesn't matter if you're in your residence hall or if you're in your classroom. It's all the same Wi-Fi system and there also is Wi-Fi for guests as well. It's a separate portal that doesn't have a password and it's just to make sure that all the systems don't get like super overwhelmed by the amount of people. So that's why there are different ones.
Lea asked, do you need your ID to get into the Barrymore Hotel every time?
We have come. There isn't a direct card access to the Barrymore, but we have a front desk team that works down on the 1st floor. We also have arres that kind of do their rounds throughout the building in addition to Barrymore security and campus safety that go through the buildings as well.
So next question is from Jade, how do we go about shipping items to campus prior to move in?
So we have a little blurb here from mail services that beginning July 19th.
Mail Services will accept and hold packages shipped prior to your arrival to campus so that they can efficiently provide service to you during this peak time, they ask that for your support by adhering to the following restrictions and guidelines so students can send three packages per student from July 19th through August 30th. The weight limit of £50 Max per package. They ask that you don't send any appliances to refrigerators, grills, toaster ovens, no large.
Furniture, no perishable packages until after August 30th, so that's the general overview of that. If you have specific questions regarding kind of shipping your items definitely reach out to mail services directly for that information.
Next question is from Macintosh. How and when do we get our Spartan ID cards? As said before, you'll either get it when you're checking in on campus as a residential student or during the commuter check-in where you'll come in during the August 27th through August 29th window.
Caitlin says when do you officially move in? I have my move in date set but don't know when I start staying there.
I can take this one, Caitlin, same name, same spelling. How cool. So you went that day you move in your with us up. You can sleep there that night. That's why it's your home, away from home when you get there so decorate it how you want it. But yeah, once you come that day you're with us and that's your home.
Are pushpins allowed in every dorm building? Is the question from Corin.
Yes, but just keep in mind no big nails or anything like that. Just like tiny basic questions.
Next question is from Eli. Hello, I'm an incoming freshman and I saw my schedule on work day. Is that our final schedule? Because I tried to contact my advisor regarding my schedule, I have huge gaps and I am a commuter. I have a commute of 45 minutes. I wanted to know what I can do to resolve that.
Yes, I will take this one.
So the schedule that is on work day is your finalized schedule as of now, starting on August 23rd, you can make updates to your schedule on your own. You will be getting an email to your Spartan email with more direction on how to do that once it gets closer to that date. If you have tried to contact your advisor and they have not contacted you back one. I know one of our advisors is out for a couple weeks because he is going on a lovely European vacation right now, so if he has his out of office, please email another.
Person in our office, but if they haven't gotten back to you, please know that we we do have about 400 to 450 students per advisor, so we are currently working through all of our emails. We also have advising drop Inns were doing those in the academic Success Center and we're also doing those on zoom, so if you go to utah.edu and just type in advising, click the first thing that pops up that will have our zoom link are advising. Zoom droppings are Monday through Thursday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
So you can go on there and meet with an advisor and we will do our best to make any adjustments to your schedule that we can. But if we cannot make adjustments in the moment we will teach you how to make those adjustments on your own so you can start doing that on August 23rd.
Next question is from Ianthe. I'm hope I'm saying your name right for the payment. Are you able to pay with a Ch? If yes, do you know how or where so you can make a payment on work day so when you log into your work day there's the UM like financial button I believe and that's where you will make your payments through there.
The Laurya asks what is the tuition payment plan deadline?
Waiting to see if we had the answer.
We would recommend just contacting the Bursar's office by the end of this month.
Uhm, so definitely reach out with specific tuition questions and what to do about going with that.
Jessica asks what are the dates of the events for welcoming week. As I've said before, officially August 27th through September 6th, with events also taking place on the 25th and 26th of August for our earlier moving arrival students.
Candy ask any ID scanners, read them through an ID holder. I want to put mine on my lanyard.
Yes, it is the best thing in the world. I have mine in the back of my phone and it's just you. Just tap it up and it's all good. So yes.
Next questions from Drew. What buildings are open during move in week?
I don't know what questioning specifically, like if you're talking academic buildings or.
Let me see if you're talking residentially, then I mean all buildings are open because everyone will be moving in a. I don't know of how wanting to visit during move in time because everything is going to be busy. So if you have friends living on campus and another building, then you I'd wait till after move in hours. If you're wanting to go check each others places just to make the life of the R as an area coordinators a little bit easier by having.
And like mine is in my wallet and I have like a thick leather wallet. Never have to pull it out so.
One or two less bodies in the space. If you're talking academic buildings, and most of them will be open to the public. But what we ask is that you don't go directly into classrooms, for example, because they'll either a be locked or be they don't really need the foot traffic yet. But there are some buildings like Vaughn Center, which has a lot of high traffic because it's also food on the 1st floor. Same as morsani, so those kind of have like a more public access.
Whereas other residential buildings don't, because they're strictly residential. There's also plant hall, which typically that first floor is always open because of the museum. Because of the admissions office.
Another thus within the building and you know, just because of the general appeal of it, everyone wants to go see plant Hall, so that's another one that's open. You can always try and just see. We just ask that you're not like trying to push your way into a building. If it's locked and it looks vacant, maybe just leave it for it for when classes are actually up and running.
Uhm, Jamie asks what's it like living off campus as a freshman? So I'll answer that. Uhm, just because I did that, I've lived off campus. My entire college experience I.
Hi, I'm actually a Tampa native so Utah is right in my backyard. I live about 30 minutes away, UM, and it's something that I felt like for myself. It was challenging to get involved on campus just because I also was dealing with like transportation issues. So it's something that I made friends with people that lived on campus. I made it a point where when I was on campus I was on campus all day so my big gaps between classes.
I was here. I honestly was pretty much on the 2nd floor of an either sitting behind the Reeves desk or at the the couch. That's here studying. I found corners that worked for me that I liked and just kind of made made my space of it. I made friends on campus that lived on campus so if I was like I really want to go from people. I went and hung out in their rooms and it's something that you just have to get yourself involved and make it work for you. It's definitely doable. You're definitely still a part of the community.
I always felt like I was part of the community. It's just making sure that you're putting yourself out there because no one's forcing you to and no ones really putting you in that situation where you're.
Automatically making friends uhm.
It's something that you have to put yourself there, but the community is welcoming and so warm and everybody wants you here. I mean, I've made friends with R as an area coordinators and I'm like, hi, I don't live here, but we're going to talk and have fun. You know, like everyone cares about you, you know just because you don't have an RA or an area coordinator doesn't mean that you won't have one that will kind of adopt you as their own.
Next question is from Michaela, since I'm going to be staying in the Barrymore, is it OK if I bring my own desk?
I would highly recommend you reach out to the Barrymore area coordinator Carly just to double check this. We don't really recommend bringing in your own large furniture 'cause this is something that can be provided for you because you're also going to have to move it out at the end of the year too, so keep that in mind. Touch base with Carla Taylor and she'll be able to tell you for certain if if you can bring your own.
In like I mentioned, you can request another desk to be in the room and UT will provide that for you.
Next question is from red. I was looking for moving maps and I didn't see one for the Barrymore Hotel.
Great question. We will be emailing you those once they're completed, so just keep your eyes on your Spartan email account and will send that out shortly. I also wanted to kind of bring up some questions we received from a Michael on the orientation email account Michael was asking if there are any.
Photos or videos of the residence halls. And yes, we have a web page. Will all of that information is posted, so check out the residence Hall page there.
That is the most up-to-date information we have. Please keep in mind that some layouts of rooms in the building vary quite a bit, so yours may be different depending on where it is in the building, so I would recommend you talk to your area coordinator, Frankie Defranco. His information is on our web page as well on how you can get in touch with him, but yes, it just depending on where the room is in the building, what floor it is. It could be slightly different here in there.
Also, can we get room and furniture dimensions for Austin Hall again? Contact your area coordinator and they can assist you with those questions.
There is a second part to Michael's question as well that we might as well go ahead and answer about what construction is being done at the fitness center. When will it be finished and are the pool and basketball courts open during this construction?
Yes, I can. Everybody hear me by the way.
I'm sorry like I did. I pressed the wrong button like I'm not good with this stuff so uhm the with the fitness center. So what essentially it's being doubled essentially in its size, and that's suppose I think they expected construction completion for that is in the spring of 22. So not this coming fall when you start. But your second semester of your first year, so that's going to be is going to be more. Sometimes we have, we have seminars in their professors host classrooms in there. We have a full workout area both in upstairs and downstairs downstairs.
Your cardio equipment ellipticals treadmills. Stair climbers. Things like that. Upstairs is our weights. You know anything from from dumbbells and free weights to you know machine drugs. She's all that type of stuff that you might want to utilize to get your workout in so that space is essentially being double. I think it's like there's something Reisman fitness center. I think it's called and So what? That's going to be, essentially it's going to be that fitness center. There's going to be a pool, a basketball court, and a volleyball court. My understanding right now is that the pool that we're using is going to be what's like.
I guess now consider old pool on campus which is near the library. The McDonald Kelsch Library, which is by the Hillsborough River next to East Walker Hall. That's currently the pool that every like the. The swim team uses and what the students used to go tan go in the pool. Things like that. So that's our current pool and fill. This construction is done. I also don't know of any other basketball courts on campus, but I do know if you're interested in like sand volleyball. There's one behind the McKay Hall, which is also on the Hillsborough River. There's a volleyball court over there if you want to use that.
It's not like just for McCain residence. You can use it, but right now, yeah, I don't think the basketball courts are quite done yet, and I'm not sure that we're going to. I know the fitness center is going to be open for what's not being done under construction, but I don't think the rest of the facilities are going to be allowed to be used even if they're completed until the rest of the construction is completed. Course for safety and things like that, but I'm really excited to see. I'm unfortunately not gonna be here when they're done with the fitness center. I will graduated, but it is. It is probably one of the more advanced fitness centers.
And not just on a college campus, but I think in general a lot of gyms outside of colleges don't have that type of equipment and personal training and and classrooms and and things like that for students to utilize and enjoy. So I'm excited for what you guys will get to enjoy when I leave.
Awesome thanks crag. So next question is from Lizzie what are the dates of the week of welcome? Is there an itinerary so we could welcome is August 27th through September 6th. Events will also be taking place August 25th and 26th. There will be the schedule for week of welcome and that will be posted the week of August 16th on our orientation web page and also you will receive a physical copy of it when you're on campus as well.
Next question is from Maximus, how long do we have to change our classes before they are locked in?
So just like Craig mentioned, I believe as Craig mentioned in the beginning, you have until the end of add drop week which is on Sunday, September 5th.
Next question Sofia. I get dual enrollment credit for my AP classes. Utampa accepted all my dual enrollment credit. Do I still need to submit my AP scores?
If you are seeing all of your credit that you believe would have transferred over in the work day system, then you should be good to go.
Megan asks how do we require our beds to be lofted, and can they be lofted prior to move in day?
Well, I can take that one up. So no, they cannot be lofted prior to move in day. You can submit a facilities request or find an RA. Find a facilities person in the building, talked to your area coordinator and they can get someone or some of the facilities request on your behalf. We really want you to be there and be present as they move it up and down because you might think you wanted up high. But then you're like oh wow, that's way too high or I need it lower. So we just want you to be there in.
Samara asks, is there a way to find out and contact our roommate if we did the random roommate option?
Yep, everything is on residence by simplicity, so you'll be able to see your roommates name and their Spartan email, so that's the best way for them for you to reach out to them. So I would recommend looking that up up. And if you have trouble getting in touch with your roommate, it could be that they're not checking their Spartan email yet, so just you know, try to give him some patience and wait it out a little bit longer and reach out when you're a little bit closer to.
Next question is from Abby. If you move in on the first day, do you start living there right away or do you wait till everyone is moved in?
You start living there right away, so if you're coming on the 25th, you'll be staying there that night and we like husband, said we have things going on, so I think there's like an ice cream social. There's coffee and Donuts and stuff, so there will be things for you to do, but you'll be staying with us.
When it comes to ordering your books for class, should we order it when we get to the class so we know which one to get or before hand? I honestly tried to look up my classes. I didn't understand what books to buy because it asks how many units and section.
So I know for me personally a learning this throughout going through my curriculum is that a lot of times the professional will have a textbook on the syllabus and it may be optional, or they may not require it, or you may not. Even some professor require you to buy a textbook for your class.
So what I do is I usually go to class for the first week during what we call our syllabus week. I feel it out. Hey Professor, do we need this textbook? Is this recommended? Oh I notice that this was on your syllabus. Is this preferred? If they say you need the textbook 95% time you're gonna need the textbook. But if there's if it's optional, I would still recommend buying it simply for me. I'm a very textbook person like to go and read things, highlight, take notes, what not.
I know the bookstore can be kind of expensive for a lot of people, so you can always rent. I rent my textbooks off Amazon. I believe the books are also price matches. If I if I heard that correctly. But yeah, definitely, I would fill out the first. Don't like, feel like you need to panic by far more knowledge with the textbooks. Go to class, feel it out, ask your professor questions, that's what they're there for.
Next question is from Kimberly. Who do we talk to about making sure we are taking the right classes and the right amount of classes?
Yeah, so as advisors we built your schedules for you, so we were very intentional in making sure that you were in the right classes. You're taking the right amount of credit hours if you want to make adjustments to your schedule. I would just say contact your academic advisor. We would have sent an email to your Spartan email account. I'd always just like to plug. This is a good time to know that you should be checking it at least once a week. I always say daily for students, 'cause that's where you can get all your important information. But we did send you an email so you should have an email from you.
Academic advisor and if you're concerned about anything in regards to the amount of classes you're taking or which courses that you're taking, I would say go ahead and email us and we can help you out with that.
At least asks do we need certain supplies for classes? If yes, how can we find out what we need so I know me. Personally I'm a planner. I like to know things happening before they happen, so the bookstore here on campus actually is really great. If you Google University of Tampa bookstore it pops up and if you go into their like drop down menu you can look at like fine textbooks is an option and what you do is you fill out the prompted information.
About what course you're taking, the section that you're in and what the title of the course is, you do your whole schedule. You hit submit and it populates all of your books. All of your recommended supplies.
And anything that you may need for class so.
Professors and it depends. It's not like high school where you have like a supply list of like you need a 3 inch binder and you need a pencil pouch and eight markers like it's not that specific. Professors don't care what you use typically to take notes or to keep track of the assignments. Some may and what's a great place to check is your syllabus. If they are very particular about what to use, it will be in your syllabus, but you'll learn what works for you. I'm a folder with loose leaf paper.
A person and I'd take notes on my computer in the professors send out. That's what works for me. I know people that take their notes directly in their textbooks, and I know people that never pick up a pen the entire course. I don't know how, but that's what they do, so it's totally up to you. And what works best for you. But if there is anything specific, the bookstore will give you a general idea. For example, like if you needed a question answer clicker or they'll give you like.
Recommendations of hey, you should totally buy our notebooks and it just depends. But again, definitely look at your syllabus and your professors will let you know if they say that you need a.
Carbon paper thing. I don't know. I'm in nursing, not like finances and stuff so I don't know what it is. But like there are those carbon papers. I know some people need those, they'll tell you.
Next question is from Catherine our first semester schedule was created by the college, but our students still able to remove add courses on their own. If so, how do we do that?
Yes, like I said before, you will be able to make adjustments to your schedule starting on August 23rd. We will be sending communications about how you can do that to your Spartan email account in in that email that we sent you, there will be detailed instructions and as well as video. Is that what these step by step on? How to make adjustments on your own?
Perfect next question is from Darian, what if the system won't let you upload your picture for your ID if you're having issues uploading your ID for your Spartan card, just email the Spartan Card Office at Spartan card at utah.edu. They'll be able to help you out. It may just be that your file isn't uploading appropriately into their system. Your file may be too big, so just emailing them directly will help you troubleshoot that.
Abby asks where in work day do you see when you're doing? Dual credits are in there.
Yeah, so if you go into work day, you're going to go ahead and click the academics tab and then you can click view my academic progress and you should be able to see all of your dual enrollment populated in there.
Ethan asks or says hello, I am a music Ed major and when I received my schedule I have a class that overlaps with my music lesson. Will I be able to change this when I arrive on campus?
I would suggest you email your academic advisor as soon as possible and then we will make sure that we can help you with that adjustment prior to you changing things on your own, since that's a class we don't want your classes to overlap with your lesson. So go ahead and email your advisor.
Kimberly says, what is the average amount of credit hours for a freshman at Utah?
So we typically tell students to plan chart for graduation, 16 to 17 credit hours a semester, but twelve credit hours is considered full time. So there are some students who take 12 credit hours a semester and then just knowing that they need to make up what that excess credit hours would be. So the 16 to 17 to add up to the 16 to 17 in some sort of summer or winter intersession or may term throughout their time here at Utah.
Chloe asks, is there any way I can see the inside of my dorm before I move in?
Well, that is what we have our website resources for, so I would highly recommend that you review those layouts and the videos before you come to campus. We are so busy getting ready like all of our rooms and spaces and there's some locations like Brevard in Austin that are undergoing renovations so we're not physically able to be in those spaces right now until they're done so unfortunately we won't be able to show you your exact room, but information on the website is a great way to get an idea.
Sarah asks when will be works. When will we be able to access our syllabi?
Uh, so I said earlier is that it's it's when your professor makes it available, so some of them I know for the past like I've had my syllabus and my class available on Blackboard two weeks for semester starts. I had a professor last semester who didn't open up for like a month into this semester like he just didn't use Black wasn't his thing, you know? I mean email with everything. So it depends where professor like I said your blackboard in your email is linked. So if you keep up to date on your Spartan email, you should see eventually.
Let's say, OK, your, let's say your business 101 professor you know, Uhm, opened up your blackboard. Your syllabus is now available on it's. It's a general description allows you to link in so it's sort of up to the discretion of your professor. But again, a lot of times, especially professors for freshmen sophomores are very on top of, like getting your information 'cause they know that you still have to adjust to the college campus, whereas like I like, again, I had a professor last semester. He just like.
Get it to me when you get it to me type thing like MBA. Whatever you know, weird. It's just a completely different dynamic. But for you getting adjusted to college are going to be on top of things.
Caitlin asks I sent my wow buddy an email a few days ago and haven't gotten a response. When should I expect one? So as the intern? That's kind of spearheading a lot of the WOW mentor program, Caitlin. I'm going to ask if you would just email us at orientation at utah.edu your information and who your your mentor is and we'll kind of get the bottom of what's happening. We've had some transition within our leaders, so hopefully it's not.
A situation where you fell in the cracks and we want to make sure that you are connected with who you need to be connected with. So just shoot us an email and we'll get that handled right away.
Matthews says my parents would like to know if there are any plans currently scheduled for fall slash family weekend. So yes, fall Weekend is October 1st through the 2nd and registration is currently open and can be accessed at utah.edu/fall weekend, so the schedule is still being finalized, but you can register now online.
Kali asked since we aren't allowed to have cars on campus, will there be a way for us to go to places around town and will it be free? Or is there a pass we have to buy?
Uhm, I know a lot of students, UM, like to bring bikes to campus. Things like that. That's always an option to register your bike with. With the spark with our.
Campus safety you could do that, but for me when I was a first year, for example one, I didn't really feel the need to leave campus, and two, if you're trying to go downtown, you come out of like the main entrance of UTI. You walk over the bridge, can you bridge? And you're in downtown, so everything is really in a walkable distance. If you're trying to do that. But if for some reason you need to go somewhere, you know we allow ridesharing services on campus. We just we just want you to be safe about those type of decisions. For that we have the zip car I think, is that still an option? I think we have the Zipcar, which is like him.
He's a physical card which can be rented out like I think for the day for a certain fee that we have in the Thomas parking garage which is also overseen by campus Safety. I'm not sure if the downtowner is still a thing. When I was a soft freshman sophomore, we had an app called the Downtowner and what is sort of like a shuttle that's like a very much like a Uber ask. It's a shuttle that will pick you up in front of an center and take you anywhere within the limits of downtown Tampa. So that might be if that's still available. I'm not sure, might be something you want to consider too, so there's plenty of options you could get around off campus.
You need to, but again, if you're staying in the general downtown facility, every vicinity everything is in a walkable distance and like in terms of convenience. You know what I mean. There's like there's convenience stores, grocery stores, things like that. So you need to get off campus for those reasons, all right there.
Ashley asks my audio cut out earlier. Our class is fully in person. Or are we doing a hybrid schedule with online and in person?
Yeah yeah, my understanding that if certain professors have accommodations, you might have a hybrid esque type class, but mine is the that's if they you know, have a particular approved circumstance. I really doubt that any of the first year classes are going to be hybrid online or whatever, but we do have that resource to utilize like zoom classes. If in the event a situation comes up where we need to do that, we can, but we are 100% I believe open for business in.
Chase says is there sort of orientation social events on campus before classes start? Are these different for residents of the Barrymore? So yes, week of welcome. That is your social event and all the fun. How to get involved doesn't matter if you're living on main campus if you're living in Barrymore. If you're living off campus as a commuter student, all the events are for you. We even offer these events to our.
Continuing students like it's the entire community, that's what these events are for, so we'll have sections that are for kind of subgroups of students like you may have a computer.
Meet and greet session come the meet and greet for different geographical areas.
City groups, etc. So there will be like sub categories during week of welcome but it's totally up to you on what you go to and what that looks like for you. As a residential student, you'll have meetups with your arres that you'll be going to, so that's kind of those more specific social events related to where you're living. But all these events are for our Spartans.
From Kimberly, do you have information on the new form for people using Chapter 33 benefits?
And the answer to that is you can find information about VA benefits and online orientation. The webpage search veteran benefits or contact the VA certifying the official.
And again, if you have questions, definitely reach out to the Berkshires and financial aid as they handle those sorts of things. You can email the VCO at utah.edu, or call 81325739754 direct answers regarding VA benefits as well.
Transfer from you can't see who it's from. Sophomores to transfer students living on campus cannot have their car on campus.
So only freshmen are should not bring their cars.
But definitely chat with campus safety because I know that some students come in with lots of credits, so you might be by credit a sophomore, but maybe you're a first time in college students. This will be the first time you're away from home and attending a different college, so just double check with them to like figure that out, just depending on whether you're technically considered a freshman or upperclassmen.
Yes, definitely, definitely. Campus safety is the area to reach out to regarding that.
Caitlin says on work day it shows my tuition amount, but says I have financial aid pending. So does the tuition do include that already or will it still be applied?
Uh, yes. Doesn't like mentally answered before I like say something I should say uhm, yeah, so I know for example, with my circumstance said again, being a graduate assistant the tuition is taken care of so it before so under the scholarships and grants and things like that. It'll say the grant. But if it's not specifically on your financial statement yet, then yeah, it still has to be like approved by by the person. By financially they they sort of work concurrently with one another to make sure that OK financially it applied this scholarship.
The pressure needs now added to your financial statements so that cost is reduced. So yeah, like I said, I have mine on there for like a month, but it was still like pending, pending, pending, pending and eventually finally added and that was taken off the total balance. So but again, if you're not comfortable making payments right away, make sure all of your applicable grants, scholarships, whatever have you are applied before you do that.
Drew asks when should you contact UT student disability services for an accommodation?
I've reached out right away as someone who actually has a disability myself, I've worked very closely with the Office of Disability Services. They're wonderful over there. They're so great at working with you and your needs, and really making sure that you feel comfortable and supported as a student, and especially if you're a student living on campus. They definitely will go and make sure that you are having what you need. So reach out right away.
You want to start those communications early. It's better to be proactive than reactive, especially in the world of disability needs. So go ahead and start those those lines of communication with them. You can visit their webpage or you can email them at disability.services@utah.edu or call at 813-257-3266.
I would also like to add in there because I think this is good for students to know 'cause it's a question I typically get. If you had an IEP in high school that does not transfer over to college, so please make sure that you are contacting them if that's something that you think was going to happen.
It is not, and I also want to mention there not doing remote accommodations for the fall as well as there's no online classes or hybrid class options, so I think that's good for y'all to know.
I was just going to say from from personal experience, I know iep's and 50 fours are really scary, and if you've had them for like most of your life in school, they're like a really, really big pain. College is a totally different ball game. It's actually a lot easier and a lot more of a supportive environment where you say, hey, I need an extended test taking time. I need absence leniency and I have a service dog. Then they say great, I just need information from.
Your doctor and they write up your letter and you then share it with your professors and work with them on that level. So it's not as awful of a process as what you may be thinking it is. If you've had one of those more serious relationships with getting disability services and accommodations made.
Also Lee, I don't personally know, but I've heard this from others in the past. There is a portal on our my U Tampa where you can do all that right?
Yes, I definitely recommend talking with Disability Services 1st and get that relationship started. But yes, there is a portal that once you're established with the Office of Student Disability Services, it's called simplicity. Accommodate student. That's what you'll use for your time as a UT student of. Once you have accommodations that have been made.
And agreed upon ya'll urtle to then kind of re populate your accommodations for every semester. It's something you have to do every semester you have to submit your classes and you submit the request for the accommodations. Disability services. Looks it over and then they send back your accommodation letter that you as the student are responsible for sharing with your professors. So that's the portal that you use for most of your needs. But for an incoming student, definitely start that relationship.
1st and kind of find out how to do the start process before you start playing around with the the the portal.
I would also like to add for housing accommodations. If you have a documented need. You can also talk to SDS to try to get accommodations for a specific type or layout of room on campus, so feel free to reach out to them. They're great office, we work with them very closely all the time, so if you have those needs just see what they can do for you.
Next question is from Daniel for commuter students who did not get into the Barrymore, is there shuttle services anywhere else?
I think we'd touched on that, and also that they can buy a monthly bus pass from the Office of Student Leadership and engagements.
Yes, but other than that there's no like true shuttle systems with local complexes around campus.
Raphael asks is the gym free?
Yes, I gotta do is when you walk in you just give me your Spartan ID card. They'll swipe it or you'll swipe it yourself. Now with Kobe got up and you have access to the entire facility.
Great Talia asks when will students be able to visit their classes to be able to find them before classes start?
Well, I'd during week of welcome we have a classroom towards set up right? So when the week of welcome schedule comes out, you'll be able to see when the classroom tour is going to be. Which stores are going to which buildings on campus, things of that nature?
I know that like plant hall, for example, if you have a class in plant hall, it's relatively open. You know you can get to the third, second, third, or fourth floor through the 1st floor if you wanted to sort of see where that is a lot like financial aid, bursar is all those offices are in plant hall. I know typically the Sykes College of Business is open during regular business hours. You can also get to the classrooms and things like that during normal business operations.
UM, the Martinez Athletic Center, which a lot of our students go for their their studies and stuff, is typically open as well. So we would recommend you going on a classroom tour, but if you get to campus and you sort of kind of want to explore a little bit and just familiarize yourself with the general layout of campus from the outside, and you can say hey, I'm going to be in this building this semester. You can do that as well.
Brianna asks when do classes officially start.
Sil she asks is the future balance due on work day. Finance is the amount due for the semester or for the year.
And it's typically semester.
So it will come show your balance once you've made your payment it will go back down to zero or however much you have. If you're doing the monthly payment plans and then it will regenerate for the following semester.
And a quick note to that too. I know we had a lot of questions about the payment plan. You have to re sign up for the payment plan every single semester because your bill might change per semester. So at the end of the fall there will be a period for you to sign up for the payment plans. You go online and do that same thing with the spring for the following fall because you're so mad.
Your statements on a semester basis.
Sarah had asked, should we buy textbooks before classes begin? As Craig talked about before? It's kind of up to preference if you wanna wait that first week and kind of stressors say they may list all five textbooks in their syllabus, but really, the only use two definitely feel it out and just see, uhm, I'm again a planner. So I kind of tend to buy mine early and then slightly regret it later. But it makes me feel better because I know that I'm fully prepared for classes.
So it's really just up to you on what your comfort level is. If you are like me and you have to have everything ready to go and you walk in and you have all the stuff and it makes you feel good, then do that. If you're somebody that you either financially or just kind of personally don't want to make those kinds of commitments to your textbooks before you actually have to, then wait and see what your professors say in that first week. That's what the first week is for is to get to know the professors kitchen of the structure of class.
And what items you'll actually need?
Destiny asks when is the last day to get in dual enrollment credits?
Graduation just kidding. Kind of so there's no specific date or deadline that you need to get those dual enrollment credits in. What I like to tell students is try to get them in as early as possible because I don't want you to get duplicate credit and what I mean by that is if you're getting if you're bringing in credit for an English class, I don't want you to end up signing up for that English class and then having to take it twice. So the earlier you get in that dual enrollment credit, the better we can serve you as advisors.
And the best course is for you to take.
Ask, do students at the Barrymore have access to iron and ironing board like hotel guests normally do? Does hotel provide toilet paper or do students have to supply it?
You will need to bring in your own iron and ironing board. It is not provided in the room when it comes to bathroom supplies. I would recommend reaching out to Carla Taylor.
Taylor asks where I work day. Can we see if our dual enrollment credits have been accepted?
Yes, like I said before in work day you can go to academics and then view my academic progress and you should be able to see your dual enrollment there.
Catherine asks what can Spartan dollars be used for?
So I know it's Spartan dollars is a little different from Utah dollars, so Spartan dollars exactly is depending on the meal plan you buy. You get a certain amount of Spartan dollars with your plan. I know for example, I have the 12 meal plan, so I get 150 Spartan dollars per semester. They give it like a debit card, it's cash available.
That can be used app, any dining hall that accepts your UTI or I know for example like UM the rathskellar underneath plant hall is sort of like a boars head deli. What not? They don't accept the meal plan, but they'll accept you. $2.00 and the sex part in knowledge every time I go to Starbucks, I'll swipe if I get a coffee or something that's not on the meal plan, I'll swipe my Spartan dollars. So think of it as a prepaid card. I know we had a question about UT dollars UT dollars is money that you actively put onto your Spartan card. So let's say.
For example, I go online and I put $400 on my UT dollar balance. Now I'll have $400 of UT dollars. Whatever the amount of money I get is Spartan dollars, and that will go towards anything I want to swipe on campus. So really, you'll have like $550. It's all just money you're putting out just thinking like it's a debit card. It's just prepaid money.
Corn asks follow-up of our nails allowed in residence halls.
Caitlin asks can you mount a TV in the Utah dorms or should that go on a desk?
Yes, put it on your desk or like a small dresser.
Kimberly asks, can we bring mini fridges and microwaves?
We have the recommendations on our FA Q on our website, so I'd recommend reading through that to get the exact like square footage and like size for all of it. But yes, I would talk to your roommates if you're in a shared space to see if they're bringing anything 'cause you may not want to all have your own refrigerator and microwave, but you may want to. I don't know. Maybe you just want your own space. Who knows? Just chat out with your roommates and see who wants to bring that kind of stuff so you don't have a whole ton of stuff going on in your space.
Also, like I said before, we do do room checks like health and safety inspections and we know what size refrigerators belong in there. So if you have a full size refrigerator well know, so just don't just stick with the size.
And one of the benefits of living in the Barrymore is that is provided for you, so you'll have a mini fridge and a microwave in your room.
Aviona asks how will I know if my syllabi is available?
Uhm, so as we as we touched on a few times before, is that your professor typically longer blackboard. You will get notified that when your class becomes available on your blackboard, when your professor makes it available again, your email and your blackboard is linked together. So every time something is posted or made available in your blackboard, you'll get an email about it, and they'll typically have a description. So, for example, me last semester.
Oh Craig, your finance. 6:15 professor has made blackboard available. You can now view your syllabus in this section and right from the link in the email, I can click right onto it. Go right in the blackboard. Takes me exactly the syllabus, but your professors make it available at their discretion. So one professor might make it available during online the week before the semester. I had professors that handed out physically in class and then after we go over the syllabus will make the class available online. Just a professor preference, but most times.
For first years and for lower level courses, introductory courses. All of that will be online available for you before you start on the 30th.
Alright, Carla asked when can schedule changes be made.
Yep, like I stated before, you can make schedule changes on your own starting on August 23rd and an email will be sent to Spartan email about how to do that.
Olivia asks what floor is laundry on and morsani
The second floor I'm sitting right across from it right now and in laundry is free.
destiny asks how do we enroll for health insurance? How much is it? So as students, we are automatically enrolled in the United Healthcare Student insurance policy through the university, so you can't opt in and you can't opt out. It's you're automatically in it, so it actually is part of your fees within your tuition. So if you look at your bill and the like itemized breakdown, you'll see that insurance is on there.
So that gives you access to that Wellness Center here on campus and if.
You need medical attention outside of the health and Wellness centers, hours of operation or beyond what their care can provide and then can help with giving you access to places outside of campus.
Jane asks, can you tell us how big the incoming freshman class is and what it was last year?
If you're interested in knowing the demographics of the freshman class this year and what it was last year, I would contact admissions for that information.
Danielle asks at the Barrymore is there room under the beds for storage. Also, will housekeeping be vacuuming rooms or just cleaning the bathrooms?
The mean on role of housekeeping is to clean the bathrooms and pick up the trash. Uhm, I would say four in the Barrymore check with Carla just to see 'cause I don't think there's a whole lot of space underneath the beds themselves, so it's not like you can store like a whole.
Like it's not a lofted bed, their queen size beds there closer to the floor, so it's not going to be a whole lot of space underneath there.
Samara says, how do we send in the linen so they're at our at our dorm when we arrive? UM, that would be a new mail services question. So definitely reach out to mail services and ask. It seems like a package that would be able to be shift and display staff of size and weight. However, just keep in mind that three maximum package rules. So if it's something that you could stuff in a suitcase or wait.
To purchase here at a local store in Tampa that may be worth doing that option rather than using one of your your deliveries.
And just to point out, you'll have to pick it up at mail services. You won't, it won't be delivered to your haul, that's just important, so you'll have to get it to your building.
Allison asks I had the yellow Ribbon scholarship that pays for my entire four years. My certificate of eligibility should come in soon, but it might not come in before I start school or before the deadline for payment. What do I do with that certificate doesn't reach Tampa in time for the payment deadline.
So Allison, I would say you need to contact the VA certifying official located in the registrar's office. So reach out to the registrar's office and get transferred to there with any of those specific scholarship questions.
Norelli asks I was wondering if I can still sign up for ROTC for next semester.
So I would go ahead and go to youtube.edu and search ROTC. In there are specific ROTC 'cause we do have three different Air Force Army and Navy ROTC's available to students and so there is going to be specific contact information per the ROTC that you're looking at. So I would go ahead and contact them there.
Emily asks if we get the 12 or 15 meal plan. Are we still allowed to eat at the ultimate dining hall?
Lizzie, when will you know if your Spartan ID photo was accepted?
Uhm, I think no news is good news say in relation to that if you weren't sent a message saying that there was an issue with it, then chances are that it's OK. If you're worried about it, just reach out to Spartan card. They're very friendly in the office. They will help you out, and it might just be a quick look in their system to see that they have the information for you.
Sarah asks how does Rush work?
I was formerly a part of a fraternity authority life organization at Utah, and I know that the recruitment process for both fraternity stories little different. I believe there is a whole week pretty much throughout the semester. I think it's within the first month of this semester where you can go through.
The entire formal recruitment process for us. Sorry, but I'm not too particularly you can reach out to fslut.edu. They are all their office is also located in the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement on the 2nd floor, the Von Center for more questions. I feel like those type of things there will be those type of things will be. The information will come out as the semester goes on. But I do know that there is pretty much a whole week set aside for the recruitment process for FSO.
Leah asks how can one go about finding a job on campus, specially in admissions. So uhm, first you could reach out to career services on campus. There are a great resource for finding on and off campus jobs. They help you with resume building and practicing interviews. Getting resources in in relation to that, and it's something that you can use even after you graduate from UT. It's a service that is provided to alums.
As well, so they're wonderful. Put your ear to the ground. Listen out, UM. Professors will let you know if they need help with studies and if you're involved in clubs and organizations around various offices, they'll let you know if they're looking for positions. That's how I found out about mine was I was a volunteer for week of welcome and then I found out that there was a paid portion to it, so I said I'm signing up for that and applying for that job. So it's definitely knowing who you know.
There's an area you're specifically interested in. Reach out, walk up, ask. Hey how do I get involved and go about it that way? You also can look on work day and the I think it's the career tab and search for on campus jobs. There's actually like a button that you can press and it populates them. So lots of different ways.
Uhm, Taylor says if your transfer credit says not satisfied, what does that mean?
Yeah, great question. So I will do my best to answer it in a generalized format. So looking at your academic progress, sometimes there are areas that might say satisfied or not satisfied. If it says not satisfied it does not mean that your transfer credit wasn't accepted it in there, it is accepted. It just means that there might be more parts to that section of your backward experience or wherever it's located that needs to be completed. For example, in the humanities and Fine Arts section of your academic progress.
Had to be a C requirement. There's eleven credit hours that need to be completed for that requirement, so you might have one particular class in there, but there's still more credit hours that need to be completed at you team, which is why it's saying not satisfied if you're concerned and you think it maybe should think satisfied, I would go ahead and contact your academic advisor. But even if it says not satisfied if it is in there, that means it has been accepted. So I do want to clarify that.
Alright, so we have time for about one more question and then we're going to have to wrap up for the evening, so I'm going to try to find something that we haven't talked about before.
This one I'll go with this one. Sarah says I have a back and honor on my schedule. Is that OK?
Yeah, short answer, yes, if you were placed into classes we are very intentional about placing you into class. If we're currently potentially also moving classes, but.
If you are in a class, yes it is OK. We have put you in that class again. If you are questioning anything that's on your schedule, email your academic advisor. That is why we are here and we were able to answer any of those questions that you had and in terms of major changing so.
If you have submitted a change of major, are you willing to do that through a Qualtrics form? So basically, through an online form, you'll submit a change of major. If you're interested in changing your major.
If you have submitted that form, we have made that update, so we do that daily. You might not be able to see that update on work day because the system is not processing any changes until August 20th to align with financial aid here. So if you as long as you've submitted that form, then you are good to go in terms of major change, you would hopefully updates on work day and until August 20th if you need that form, go ahead and email your academic advisor for that form.
Cool well with that I want to make sure that we have time to wrap everything up this system that we use will automatically kick everybody out at 9:00 o'clock. So we've definitely learned that in the past or we were in mid sentence and then no one saw us again. So definitely want to make sure that we have enough time first. I want to thank everybody on this panel for being part of this this evening. Taking the time out of your night to answer these questions for our students and their families.
I really appreciate your support and for being here and helping us on what is considered our Friday nights here on YouTube campus in the summer time. So definitely thank you so much. Thank you to everyone who has clicked on and been a part of watching this and asking questions. Definitely if your question was not answered during our session, please reach out to the office that you think will best support you and you know if it's something related to housing.
Reach out to residence life if it's something based off financials. Definitely reach out to the financial aid office or to the Bursar's office if you have questions related to conduct in rules. Reach out to student conduct, etc. If you're not sure where to kind of segue your question, send it our way to the office of orientation at orientation at utah.edu will be able to send you in the right direction and get your questions answered and just as a reminder, this session was recorded and will be put.
On our website, yout.edu/orientation and so you'll be able to refer back to it at anytime and if there was a session or section that you missed or you want to refer back to, definitely go ahead and watch it.
But other than that, and if there's anyone on the panel that would like to say anything last minute, I feel like I've talked enough for the evening. Just want to say again, thank you so so much to everybody for coming out on Thursday night. I really appreciate it.
Do you have any residence life question? Specifically Morsani Hall, but anything else. Feel free to reach out to me or me too. I can. She's very busy but I'm happy to help you. I think we all are on this screen, but yeah, my email is c.hurleyhurley@ut.edu.
And the same for me like I said, as a graduate assistant in the College of Business. So if you have any questions about business curriculum, the Business School, how it works. I'm also in the MBA program. How to stay on track for the Masters program. Things like that. We just see you around campus and want to say hi. Please feel free to come up. Introduce yourself. I'd love to help you out. I was very involved on campus extracurricular as well, so I love getting other people involved. You have any questions in particular. My email is Crag CR AIG Trapani TRAPAN.
And if you have any questions for advising, go ahead and email your specific advisor. I would love to be able to answer all of your advising questions, but you responded, advisor for a reason, so please email your specific advisor. But if you're my advisee, I would love to have you with me.
Yes, and As for me, a way to reach me would probably be to email directly to the office and I'm one of the people that checks it. But you're not just getting one person, you'll get like four people checking that email, so you will get an answer if you email orientation at utah.edu.
So other than that, we're kind of just winding down, waiting out the clock up for this session to log out and thank you so much everybody and have a great rest of your evening and we look forward to seeing all of you joining us very, very soon on campus.
